To the Members of the Board,I am deeply dismayed about the current and projected overcrowding of elementary schools in northwest Arvada that was described in a February 2 article in the Arvada Press. As a homeowner and former Jeffco (Meiklejohn Preschool and West Woods Elementary) parent, it is very troubling to me that no planning is being done for an additional elementary school to serve this now high-need area. Adding mobiles and additional staff are but stop-gap measures to a problem that needs a real solution, something beyond being “creative,” as some board members have suggested. This issue goes beyond class sizes and best practices for our kids. This overcrowding, which means that coats, backpacks, and instruments clutter hallways, is a safety concern. Our kids, at the very least, deserve to be safe at school.
I urge you to act as soon as possible to find a real solution to this issue, rather than to continue putting it off until it becomes a crisis.
