Teacher Outreach

Teacher Outreach is interesting these days…

Here’s what was sent to staff:

Teacher Town Halls

Talk Directly to the Superintendent at a Teacher Town Hall

Superintendent Dan McMinimee will be conducting a series of town halls at four schools. Dates and times as follows:

  *   Tuesday, February 10, 3 p.m. – Conifer High School, cafeteria.

   *   Wednesday, February 11, 3 p.m. – Dakota Ridge High School, media center.

   *   Thursday, February 12, 3:05 p.m. – Pomona High School, library.

   *   Wednesday, February 18, 3:30 p.m. – Lakewood High School, Lecture Center.

 All Jeffco staff throughout the district are invited. These have been scheduled to make travel convenient for all staff who wish to attend. Please feel free to come to the meeting that is most convenient for you. Additional meetings will be scheduled in late February for staff from schools that dismiss later in the day.

These town halls are designed to provide an informal setting for you, our valued employees, to ask the Superintendent questions and express any thoughts you might have. There is no set agenda, Superintendent McMinimee will speak for approximately 15 minutes and then take questions from the floor. In order to preserve staff members’ confidentiality and create a comfortable atmosphere, this will be a private meeting. Members of the public and the media are not invited.

Let’s take a closer look at the times:

  *   Tuesday, February 10, 3 p.m. – Conifer High School, cafeteria.

  *   Wednesday, February 11, 3 p.m. – Dakota Ridge High School, media center.

  *   Thursday, February 12, 3:05 p.m. – Pomona High School, library.

  *   Wednesday, February 18, 3:30 p.m. – Lakewood High School, Lecture Center.

Most teachers are still working with real, live kids at 3:00pm and at 3:30pm.  How are they going to be able to participate in these events?  Is that considered making yourself accessible to your staff?  While it’s nice that other meetings will be scheduled in late February (no dates or info), we hope the district will realize just how ridiculous this looks to teachers that are supposed to be valued.

A few more points from a teacher that Support Jeffco Kids values:

  • Interesting that this meeting will be “private” out of respect for “valued employees”. But we haven’t been respected AT ALL and our contract negotiations are public…
  • Dr. Stevenson sent voicemails all the time and always made sure to tell us how much we were appreciated. Mr. McMinimee hasn’t done that to date; I may have received one voicemail about something I can’t remember. Maybe. I haven’t received a SuperNews (Dr. Stevenson’s newsletter to staff), and when he sent an email from a cryptic email address at the beginning of the year, I fail to understand why he sent this message through principals instead of all district staff. Terrible and thoughtless “communication” if you ask me… I’m held accountable for communication on my evaluation…

We, as parents, value our Jeffco staff.  We appreciate the collaboration and communication you provide while lovingly caring for our children. Thanks for your passion and the incredible work you do to Support Jeffco Kids!
