Following is information regarding ESSA and standards as provided by CDE that you may find helpful and informative.
ESSA State Plan to be submitted to feds for early window review
As a result of the repeal of the ESSA accountability, reporting, and state plan regulations and subsequent guidance from the U.S. Department of Education, CDE has been notified that states will no longer need to submit plans by Monday, April 3, in order to be considered in the early review window.
Instead, states will have until Wednesday, May 3, to secure the required signatures and submit their ESSA plans. CDE will request the permission of the Board to submit Colorado’s state plan at its April meeting.
If the Board approves submission of the plan, CDE will collect the signatures from the State Board Chair and the Governor in order to submit the plan prior to the new deadline.
Provide feedback on the Colorado Academic Standards
CDE has developed an online standards review system to enable all Coloradans to provide specific feedback on each and every expectation within all 10 content areas of the Colorado Academic Standards.
The review and revision process is required by Senate Bill 08-212, known as Colorado’s Achievement Plan for Kids (CAP4K). The law requires a review and revision of the Colorado Academic Standards on or before July 1, 2018, and every six years thereafter.
