Citizens for Jeffco Schools Announces
Campaign to Pass Jeffco Mill and Bond
Lakewood-Citizens for Jeffco Schools, a citizens’ group made up of parents, business and community leaders, has launched a campaign in support of the Jeffco Board of Education’s decision to move forward with a bond and mill levy override election this November.
“Our job is to ensure every student in Jeffco Schools is prepared for college and the workforce,” said Ron Mitchell, President of the Jeffco school board. “We must attract and keep excellent teachers, and make sure every child learns in a safe, secure environment.”
Citizens for Jeffco Schools will be chaired by Bill Bottoms, a long time Jeffco Schools parent, grandparent and volunteer. Co-chairs are former Columbine High School principal Frank DeAngelis, Jeffco parent, Angela Geier and Two Horizons Montessori Board Member Chris Webber.
“These measures are a sound investment in the future of Jeffco students,” said Bottoms. “Our teachers and students must have the tools and resources necessary to ensure excellence in the classroom and success for our students now and in the future.”
On August 2, 2016, the Jeffco school board referred a $33 million mill levy override and $535 million bond package to the November ballot. These measures provide vital funding to upgrade security and technology, keep quality teachers in the classroom and ensure Jeffco students are prepared for college and the workforce—all for about $4.12 per month for every $100,000 in home value.
