Rachelle’s Letter, AWest Grad

Dear Jefferson County Board of Education,

The #StandUp4Kids movement has come to my attention through friends, family, former teachers and community members. I wish to convey my experiences as a child who received my education through Jeffco schools. I attended Fairmount Elementary, Prospect Valley Elementary, Drake Middle School, and graduated from Arvada West High School in 2008.

Throughout my educational career I was fortunate to have met many influential, supportive, and gifted educators that had a direct role in shaping my future. I believe the education and opportunities I received as a child and adolescent helped to shape the values I now hold for being an active community member and professional. I was able to earn college credits while attending high school which helped me to achieve my BS degree in Psychology with an pre-medical designee from the University of Colorado in just three years of study. I was also awarded the University of Colorado Alumni Scholarship during my studies.

I am continuing my education as a graduate student at Regis University. I will be graduating in May of next year with my MA in Counseling and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Counseling Children & Adolescents. I will have the opportunity to provide mental health counseling and education to those in my community. Through my studies at a graduate level I found my passion for mental health and medical conditions which has led me to pursue avenues to achieve my PhD in Psychology starting next year.

From the quality education I received from Jeffco schools and educators I have been able to follow my passions and achieve my goals. I firmly believe that without the support and guidance from my teachers, coaches, and administrative staff, I would not have been able to succeed. I encourage you to stand up for kids by continuing to provide supportive, quality, educational experiences for children in the Jeffco community. The experiences you give those children will lead to successful, motivated, and educated citizens that will make a difference in the community and hopefully beyond.

Sincerely,
Rachelle Buchanan
