We’ve supported the work of Serving Kids since before we became SJK. These volunteers (several of them are retired educators) make sure our neediest Jeffco kids receive the clothing they need. Your donations (via our clothing drives and donations), are making a considerable difference. We thank everyone who has donated to the drive!
Here’s a reminder of what we need and where you can drop your donations:
All gently used clothing and coats, any size! New socks, new underwear, new undergarments! Remember, high school students wear the same sizes as adults as well – so every size donation is needed! Please drop your donations off to us!!!

Here’s the latest message from our friends at Serving Kids:
Hi, Serving Kids Friends, Volunteers, Drivers, Shoppers, and other supporters,
If it is August at the Serving Kids temp, the fax machine is cranking out clothing requests and email requests are filling the Inbox. Of course, that is what we want to see because it means that the Jeffco staff is identifying students who need assistance with school-appropriate clothing and starting the process of getting help to them. Our volunteers filled 278 requests in August which was an increase of 28 from August 2017.
As you are probably aware, we strive to provide students with the clothes needed to attend a week of school. A few requests just list one or two items such as a coat or a pair of shoes but the requests are generally for the same things we tried to supply for our own children as they headed back to school. An order sent may include: Pants/Jeans 3 maximum
Tops 5 “
Underwear 5 “
Socks 5 “
Hoodie/jacket 1 or 2
Shoes 1 pair
Heavy coat 1 max
Hat 1 “
Gloves 1 pair
We stock or will shop for the above items when requested for a student. In addition, from the donations we receive there are often items that can be included in a clothing request as an extra or bonus—perhaps a dress, sandals, shorts, pj’s, or a holiday or sports team t-shirt. With over 1000 each of tops, socks and underwear given out in August, it is no surprise that the item count for August’s orders exceeded 6000!
Students in 49 elementary schools, 15 middle schools, 11 high schools, 10 other District programs were recipients of clothing from SK.
We greatly appreciate the supporters throughout Jefferson County (and some beyond) who have donated “gently used” items. The clothing drive led by Support Jeffco Kids has been huge — and they have a list of great folks who are willing to keep serving as drop-off sites for donations if you still have a closet to clear out. Check them out on Facebook or go to https://www.supportjeffcokids.org
to see the list.
HUGE appreciation also goes to those who make monetary donations—we use those funds to purchase the required new socks and underwear or to buy a needed item that is not in stock, such as 40 X 42 jeans or 4X hoodie. Even with all of the available donated items, shoppers spent over $1000 in August to meet the needs in the student requests. Donations can be made to Jeffco Schools Foundation with Serving Kids noted as the recipient of the funds. We also participate in a program using King Soopers cards. Serving Kids receives 5% of the shopping paid for with the cards. Contact the JCAA office at 303-982-6839 ext e for information.
If you or someone you know would like to volunteer for an hour or two occasionally or regularly, we would welcome your help. Leave a message at 303-982-2225 and a volunteer will contact you. Bring a friend and make new friends!
If the past predicts the future—the August Flood will be followed by the September Tsunami! Hold on tight!
Thanks to all of you for your interest and support.
