Clothing and Coats Needed

It’s time for another clothing and coat drive! While many eyes are on hurricanes and needs in other states, we have homeless children right here in Jeffco with extreme needs. Winter will be here soon and the number of clothing donations needed by Serving Kids has already proven to be overwhelming.

What do we need? Clean out your closets and donate your gently used clothing items and winter coats that don’t fit or that you’re replacing. ALL SIZES – high school students wear adult sizes. If you’d rather shop, new clothes and undergarments are also a need. We’d like to do this for the entire month of September and our volunteers have offered their homes and porches as drop off locations for you, 24 hours a day!

Please clean out your closets and help us make this the largest clothing and coat drive we’ve ever done.

Read the following message from Serving Kids (a volunteer group of the Jeffco Schools Foundation) that shows how great the need is, what’s coming, and other ways to help:

Last year in August we filled 145 requests and thought that was a lot.  This year we filled and sent 250 bags of clothes to students in 78 Jeffco schools or programs.  73 of these students are homeless Since July 1, our shopper and generous donors have provided 277 pairs of shoes, 808 jeans or pants, 1286 tops, 1179 underwear, 1193 pairs of socks and 140 heavy coats.  Typically the next four months are our busiest.  It could be a wild ride.

VOLUNTEERS: Thirty-five regular volunteers are committed to Serving Kids and would welcome others to join in the fun of finding perfect clothing for kids who’ve had nothing good until now.  If you haven’t volunteered and would like to give a few hours occasionally or on a regular basis, call Serving Kids at 303-982-2225 and leave a message.  A volunteer will call you back.  Let your friends know they are welcome, too.  Volunteers are needed to sort donations, to launder and mend items, to shop, to fill orders, and to drive bags of clothes to schools.  We are busiest from August through May each year.

Please share this and ask your friends, family, and neighbors to donate! We really do need your help. If you want to help collect as well, we’ll gladly add your address to the drop off list. Just email us
