Dorian De Long Arts and Music Scholarship

Dorian De Long was one of our first volunteer coordinators. He was an incredible friend, wonderful father, fabulous Girl Scout volunteer, and an amazing teacher and advocate for public education. Shawna was lucky to meet him when she started a Girl Scout troop in kindergarten and their daughter joined through mutual friends. He was just one of those friends you never forget and forever cherish.

If you can this event in his honor, tomorrow, or make a donation for their scholarship program, we’d sure appreciate your support!

About the scholarship: The Dorian De Long Arts and Music Scholarship is awarded to a graduating Jefferson County high school student who intends to pursue advanced education in the study of the arts (visual as well as performing). The scholarship (currently $1,500) is awarded annually in memory of Dorian De Long, a passionate educator and education activist, who believed in the power of the arts to transform lives. The scholarship is administered through the Jefferson County Education Association Excellence Fund. The Dorian De Long Arts and Music Scholarship encourages students to continue an arts education, creating a well-rounded student who has critical thinking skills, effective communication skills and creative problem solving abilities, leading to a stronger individual and community.
